FAQ

  1. What is The Exegesis Programme?
"The Exegesis Programme is more than an effective consciousness training . . . . it is a way of experiencing and knowing, an approach that emphasizes dynamic action and awareness. The Programme is about communication, relationships, and the nature of support and human effectiveness." (source: The Exegesis Programme)
The Programme is simply a training course in the nature and use of a complete linguistic model of responsibility working that is the end result of having made the decision to take responsibility for creating your entire experience, your own life and your circumstances. In short, it is a radical form of neuro-linguistic programme, a complete experience in essence.

  2. What is the purpose of the Programme?
"The Exegesis Programme has one purpose, and that is to allow you the participant, to establish the truth of your present reality, in order to harmonize with what is; that creates an opportunity to discover and reveal your innate capacity for joy, enthusiasm, peace of mind and clarity." (source: The Exegesis Programme)

  3. Are the training courses still being run?
No. They were run from 1977 until around 1984.

  4. Is the Programme available in a written form?
Yes. CHANGE MANAGEMENT FACILITATION: A Complete Manual, 2000,  in essence is an elementary and incremental guide through the complete Programme.

  5. Why did it take more than twenty one years to produce a complete written form of the Programme?
Because for more than sixteen of them there was almost no agreement that it was possible. During that time the connection between Communication and The VSM had yet to be discovered, shared, clarified and developed.

  6. Who can benefit from the end result of using the Manual?
Anyone who is mentally able regardless of his present ability to focus analytically.

  7. Why is the Manual difficult to understand fully?
Mainly because it is a valid form of, self-confrontation aka 'the-act-of-taking-a-look-at-what-is-doing-the-looking'. Or in others words, understanding it fully demands that you use what works, makes sense and is satisfying in yourself to understand fully what works, makes sense and is satisfying in the self (aka your true self). Here, at least one other person must share fully with you the experience of having used the Manual, and you must use your natural intelligence since using your rational/intellectual intelligence always takes you away from the truth of your present experience.

  8. What is the key difference between the material in the Manual on The Essential VSM and Beer's material on The VSM?
The level of causality (i.e. Y is caused by X).
The material in the Manual on The Essential VSM is a clearly, concisely and well defined description of, the fundamental consistency and unity of our common sense-making machinery working aka Beer's systemic set of subsystems. No subsystem in this same set is caused by (an)other(s) and making the whole set work for you is your responsibility - i.e. you are cause and source of the entire experience. To make this possible linguistically, causality that is engrained in normal English language structure was reduced to zero throughout the Manual by using a complete linguistic model of responsibility working.
Beer's material on The VSM is a description of the development and use of The VSM and by using elaborate language causality (although reduced to zero in his diagrams) was reduced to a very low level but not zero.

  9. At present what support is there in the outside world regarding communication of the end result of the Programme?
Almost none and patchy. The act of taking responsibility for making your own life work now, goes against the rational/intellectual mind and is the most unpopular thing in the world. Resistance to this same act by the rational/intellectual mind, the creator of feelings of separation and reasons for the act being impossible, takes many forms:- "I've no time…". "I'm too busy…". "'The Programme/Manual is about someone else, not me…". "It's too much for me…". "It's too uncomfortable…". "If it were just…". "If you…". "It's not for me…". "You prove to me that it works first…". "It costs too much…". "Current management thinking has moved on a lot since the time of Beer and The VSM…". etc.

  10. What plans are there to expand this site e.g. publish the Manual electronically?
None. Currently there is no business case for this, and no more money being allocated or enough money contributed freely from new and interested individuals to make this possible economically.
